The Garden is open to visitors from sunrise to sunset, and we ask that you follow the following CDC rules to help prevent the spread of Covid-19:
With persons outside your group, practice social distancing.
Hands should be washed with soap and water on a frequent basis.
If you’re not feeling well, please don’t come to our facilities.
The schoolhouse and playhouse will be open on May 3rd, and visitors are encouraged to bring playthings for these areas. There is a restroom, but it is not frequently cleansed and should be used at your own risk. Bikes are not allowed inside the Garden and must be parked in the parking lot. Following designated routes, rather than climbing trees or shrubs or gathering fruits, vegetables, or flowers, can help to preserve the Garden’s atmosphere and beauty. We hope you have a wonderful day at the Children’s Garden.
The Children’s Garden Project, established in 1997 in collaboration with the Village of Elwood, the Elwood School District, and Jackson Township, provides an educational and enlightening experience for children and adults who like nature and gardening. The garden is intended to enrich the brains, hands, and hearts of all people who have a connection to nature. Our Garden provides daily exploring opportunities that encourage play and contact with the natural world. A stroll around the Elwood Children’s Garden Project can be used to record life’s key moments. That first Mother’s Day, Dad’s 50th birthday, your wedding day, and a slew of other occasions can be immortalized on a brick. Your brick will be a unique addition to the garden that your family will remember during their visit to the Elwood Children’s Garden. Each brick costs $100.
When visiting our community garden, please be respectful and follow the following guidelines:
Please stay with your children at all times, parents and adults. For groups of less than ten people, the Garden picnic area is accessible. All others should call the village at 815-423-5011 to book the Lloyd Erickson Park Pavilion.
To protect the plant life, stay on the walkways.
The garden does not allow pets, bicycles, skateboards, smoking, or alcohol.
Flowers and vegetables are only for decoration.
After each use, clean up the area.
Llyod Erickson Park’s restrooms will only be open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. THE BATHROOMS ARE AT THE MOMENT CLOSED.
Please remember that children and small guests should never be left alone in the garden. Thank you for your assistance with the Children’s Garden. Please be aware that the garden is busiest between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. To ensure the safety of all visitors and to protect our outside environment, a “FULL TO CAPACITY” sign may be shown.
