Mokena Community Park District (Mokena)

Mokena Community Park District (Mokena)

In 1997, this 116.25-acre property was purchased. It is located in Mokena, IL, with approximately 48 acres to the south of LaPorte Road and 68 acres to the north. The McGovney-Yunker Homestead, on the north parcel, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2006 for its important contribution to the area’s history. The Mokena Chamber of Commerce Food & Wine Festival and the Park District Farm & Barn Fest are held in the farmhouse, which is made up of a number of original farm structures. A local farmer continues to farm the remaining 68 acres of the property. A $6 million referendum was authorized by voters in 2014 for capital improvements on both the north and south sides of the land. The outsides of the farm buildings on the north side have been restored. A dog park with separate zones for large and small canines, a splash pad, a performance amphitheatre with tiered grass seating, and community gardens with raised ADA accessible beds will also be available. A gymnasium has been added to the Oaks Recreation and Fitness Center, as well as more parking, on the south side. The Park District is grateful for the voters’ faith and trust as we work to provide you with better and better facilities and activities. Additional attractions include Cardiac Defibrillators, Donate-a-Tree, and Gift Certificates in various dollar amounts for numerous occasions. There are also volunteer opportunities as well as a walking track for individuals aged 13 and up. The Mokena Community Park District could be a good fit for you and your family.
