Louis Joliet Mall

Louis Joliet Mall (Westfield) Louis Joliet Mall in Joliet, Illinois. This shopping center has JCPenney, Macy’s (previously Marshall Field’s), a 14-screen Cinemark movie theater, and two vacant anchors from Carson’s and Sears. Cajun Boil & Bar and TGI Fridays are among its eateries. Louis Joliet has Macy’s and JCPenney on one level and Bergner-Weise and Carson’s Sears on the other. The mall has a food court off the main hallway.

Sears and Marshall Field & Company opened in 1978. Bergner-Weise debuted in September 1979, and JCPenney followed a month later. Initially, the Louis Joliet Mall faced severe competition from the slightly older Jefferson Square Mall a few miles distant. Both malls had several stores like Stuart’s, Musicland, Printer’s Ink, etc. After Wieboldt’s closed in 1987, several of these stores moved to Louis Joliet Mall or simply shuttered. The mall was updated in 1995.

The Plainfield Tornado came within a few hundred yards of the southwest entrance. Some people say they just saw a gigantic black wall to the southwest. Circuit City opened in 1991. The chain failed in 2009. In 2011, hhgregg took over. In 2017, hhgregg filed for bankruptcy. Binny’s Beverage Depot took over in the fall of 2018.

In September 2002, Best Buy opened outside the mall. Affiliation: Value City Furniture. A Super 8 motel opened north of JCPenney in 1994. In 1997, Hampton Inn and Motel 6 opened to the northwest of Super 8.

Linens ‘n Things opened outside the mall in 1999 and shuttered in 2008. Ashley Furniture took over in 2010. It opened on the West Side in December 2000.

Jefferson Square closed about 2002 and was destroyed in 2004 to make way for a Menards and a Walmart. On September 9, 2006, Marshall Field’s became Macy’s.

Opening in 1984, General Cinema had three screens. Silver Cinemas expanded its screen count in 1990. AUGUST 2008 – Cinemark replaced it on May 8, 2009. Movies 8, which opened on June 22, 1990, closed two days before.

The Westfield Group bought the mall in 2003 and renamed it “Westfield Shoppingtown Louis Joliet” in June 2005. Due to the presence of additional Westfield malls in Aurora and Chicago Ridge, the outside signage was subsequently changed to “Louis Joliet Mall”. The mall was sold to Starwood Capital Group in April 2012, and is presently managed by JLL.

The mall has one story of shops, stands, and restaurants. It also has a modest children’s play area with parent-friendly décor.

December 2014: H&M and Pandora. Seritage Growth Properties acquired 235 Sears properties in 2015, including the Sears at Louis Joliet Mall.

To close all 66 stores, MC Sports announced it on February 16, 2017. In the same year, a Home2 Suites by Hilton opened near the mall. On April 18, 2018, Carson’s announced its closure due to Bon-Ton Stores’ bankruptcy. 29 August 2018: Store closed. As of August 2, 2018, Senior Services of Will County may move into the former Bernger-Weise location.

On October 15, 2018, Sears said it would close as part of a nationwide plan to close 142 shops. The store closed in 2019, leaving only JCPenney, Macy’s, and Cinemark as anchor retailers.
